Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Barry University's No. 2-ranked women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 match at No. 5 Lynn Saturday.
The Buccaneers (13-2, 4-2 Sunshine State Conference) will host No. 34 Rollins at 9 a.m. Sunday on Senior Day at Buccaneer Tennis Center. It will be the final regular season match at home for
Emma Onila.
Saturday's loss was the Bucs' first against the Fighting Knights (18-3, 6-2) in the last 10 meetings between the two teams. Barry's last loss to Lynn was the first since April 4, 2011.
Barry won the top two doubles matches to take a 2-0 lead. No. 22-ranked
Zuza Maciejewska and Onila defeated Rosalie Willig and Alina Jane, 8-2, at No. 1 pairs. Thirteenth-ranked
Ana Pain and
Sonja Larsen beat Diana Bogolli and Carolina Cuevas, 8-4, at No. 2. Lynn won the last pairs point at the No. 3 position.
After the Fighting Knights claimed points at the Nos. 1 and 6 singles positions to take a 3-2 lead, eighth-ranked Maciejewska rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Grace Mpassy at No. 2 to tie the match at 3-3. Lynn won the No. 5 singles match to go up a point before 11th-ranked Larsen beat Cuevas, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4 to square the match at 4-4. But the Fighting Knights won the final point at No. 3 singles in a third set.
