Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Barry University women's tennis team capped its three-match road trip with a 5-0 win at Embry-Riddle Sunday.
The No. 2 Buccaneers improved to 13-1 overall after winning two of three matches this weekend. No. 31 Embry-Riddle, a Sunshine State Conference provisional member, fell to 7-7 overall.
The win was Barry's seventh sweep this season, and it marked the fourth time the Bucs have won by a 5-0 verdict.
Playing with
Barbora Kijasova for the first time since the season opener on Feb. 17,
Emma Onila and the Bucs completed the doubles sweep with a 9-8 (7-3) win over Hui-I Huang and Anna Gotz at the No. 1 position. Onila's 6-2, 6-3 win over Huang at No. 1 singles clinched the match.
Barry's 13th-ranked doubles team of
Ana Pain and
Sonja Larsen defeated Kathryn Bock and Paula Ortiz Couder, 8-2, at the No. 2 position for the Buccaneers first point. At No. 3 pairs,
Judith Bohnenkamp and
Alisa Rudenko breezed to an 8-1 win over Giovanna Tomiotto and Meena Bennett. It was Bohnenkamp and Rudenko's first match together.
Bohnenkamp gave the Bucs a 4-0 lead when she secured the first singles point with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Bennett at the No. 6 position. The remaining four singles matches went unfinished with Barry up a set at Nos. 2 and 3 singles.
Onila and Larsen each now sport 11-1 singles records. Larsen and Pain are 12-2 in doubles.
Barry will play at arch-rival and No. 5 Lynn 11 a.m. Saturday.
