Baseball Takes On Rival Nova This Weekend

Bucs take on rival Sharks in crucial SSC clash

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Coming off a series win over Palm Beach Atlantic, Barry baseball returns to Feinbloom Field this weekend to take on Sunshine State Conference rival Nova Southeastern.

Last year, the Buccaneers went 1-2 against the Sharks but lead the all-time series 53-37-1.

This year, the Sharks come into the series at 18-11 with their last series being a sweep of Saint Leo this past weekend.

Threats on the NSU roster include junior catcher Michael Hernandez, who leads the team with a .343 BA, seven doubles and eight home runs, and junior outfielder Brandon Gomez, who leads NSU with 35 hits and 31 RBI.

On the mound, the Sharks will look to pitchers like senior RHP's Alex Mateo, who leads the starters with a 2.63 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 51.1 IP, and Devin Raftery, who's thrown a team-high five saves and is second with 30 strikeouts.

This series is vital to both squads as the teams currently stand at 4th (NSU) and 6th (Barry) in the stands and this weekend could go a long way in determining where they end up.

Friday night's game is schedule to start off at 6 PM and Saturday's doubleheader is slated to begin at 1 PM.
