Women's Tennis Draws up Win over Academy of Art

No. 4 Barry improves to 8-0; hosts No. 12 NYIT Sunday

Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Chalk another one up for the unblemished Buccaneers.

No. 4 Barry University women's tennis team beat No. 23 Academy of Art, 5-1, Tuesday. The win bumped the Bucs record to 8-0, while the San Francisco-based Urban Knights fell to 5-5.

Emma Onila and Zuza Maciejewska each won two matches for the Buccaneers, and Barry won three singles positions in straight sets to seal the deal.

Onila and Maciejewska swept Annika Schneider and Taisiia Andrieieva, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles. Maciejewska defeated Andrieieva, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Onila was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Michelle Dandik at No. 3 singles.

Barry's No. 3 doubles team of Judith Bohnenkamp and Barbora Kijasova pulled out a critical pairs win, beating Paula Alcantara and Dandik, 9-7. That sent the Bucs into singles up, 2-1, as he Urban Knights won the No. 2 doubles match.

Barry's Sonja Larsen defeated Alcantara, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. The Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles matches went unfinished with the Bucs up a set in each.

The Buccaneers will host No. 12 New York Tech at noon Sunday.
