Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's No. 4-ranked women's tennis team shut out NCAA Division I Butler Thursday, 5-0, at Buccaneer Tennis Center.
The Buccaneers (6-0) were one day removed from returning from a West Coast trip that saw them pick up two wins in Southern California. The Bulldogs fell to 1-16.Â
Emma Onila won both of her matches without giving up a game. Paired with
Zuza Maciejewska, she helped the Bucs secure an 8-0 win over Jocelyn Koester and Kailey Eaton at No. 2 doubles. Ranked 12th in the country in singles, Onila swept Rachel Sutton, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 4 position.
Eleventh-ranked
Sonja Larsen beat Konstantina Adami, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles to clinch the match.
Larsen and
Ana Pain, ranked No. 20 in doubles, were 8-5 winners over Bailey Padgett and Adami, at the No. 1 position.
Barbora Kijasova and
Judith Bohnenkamp beat Jordan Minnick and Michelle McFerran, 8-4, at No. 3 to complete the pairs sweep.
In all of the unfinished singles matches, each of the Bucs won the first set. Pain, who owns the No. 5 singles ranking, was two games away from closing out a sweep of Eaton at the No. 3 position, leading 6,-0, 4-0. At No. 1, Maciejewska led Padgett, 6-2, 4-1. Bohnenkamp led Callie Schmit, 6-1, 2-1, at No. 6. Kijasova won the opening set, 6-3, over McFerran at No. 5.
