MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Starting the 2016 season with two big wins, upsetting then-#2 Catawba and then beating Tusculum, Barry baseball returns from a week off as it plays in its first midweek game of the year against Colorado Christian, Tuesday night.
The Buccaneers have started out strong with several players already making their mark at the plate. Junior
Carlos Matamoros leads the team with a .643 BA, nine hits, a homerun and a triple; performances that earned him Sunshine State Conference Player-of-the-Week honors.

Khalil Denson and senior catcher
Ramon Valdez have also contributed, leading the team in RBI with seven and six respectively.
Newcomer
Alexander DeGoti has also made his presence known, leading the team with 14 assists.
On the mound,
Luis Deville had a big day against Tusculum, striking out a career-high six batters and holding the Pioneers to just one run in 7.0 IP.
Facing the Bucs on Tuesday night is a Colorado Christian team who began their season this past Friday, falling to Webber International 6-4. The Cougars play tonight against
Palm Beach Atlantic.
In their first game, the Cougars saw noticeable performances from infielders Brandon Hesselberg and Pete McWilliams, who both had RBI, and outfielder Jerry Gallegos, who had a double.
Pitching-wise, CCU may look to RHP Matt Weaver, who struck out 28 batters in 2015 and RHP Austin Atkerson who struck out 41 last season.
