Zuza Maciejewska was put in a prime position to prove her worth. Saturday she helped the No. 4 Buccaneers women's tennis team author a 7-2 win over No. 21 Valdosta State at Buccaneer Tennis Center.
A freshman, Maciejewska beat No. 22 Bea Morales, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1, at No. 1 singles in her first test against a ranked opponent. She and
Emma Onila combined to beat Laura Ubeda and Sabrina Schmidt, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles, helping the Bucs sweep pairs play to take a 3-0 match lead into singles. It was Maciejewska's first No. 1 singles match of her young college career.

Ana Pain and
Sonja Larsen were 8-1 winners over Morales and Jose Jedrychevski at No. 1 doubles.
Barbora Kijasova and
Alisa Rudenko defeated Daniella Barta and Anke Poncelet, 8-6, at the No. 3 pairs position.
Larsen was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Ubeda at No. 2 singles. Onila beat Jedrychevski, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 3. Pain beat Schmidt, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4 as the Buccaneers won the top four singles matches.
Valdosta State picked up its two wins in the bottom two singles positions.
The Bucs will host St. Thomas at 3 p.m. Thursday.
