Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Eckerd

Bucs earn first SSC series win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry baseball closed out the weekend as it split today's doubleheader with Sunshine State Conference opponent Eckerd on Saturday, winning the first game 6-0 and losing the second game 4-3.

In game one, Buccaneers starter Luis Deville pitched his first-ever complete game, striking out three batters in nine scoreless innings.

The Bucs scored in pairs to help their right-hander on the mound, with Mike Diaz scoring on an error and Carlos Matamoros scoring on a wild pitch in the 3rd.

In the 4th, Diaz doubled to right center to bring Jonathan Quintana and Alffredi Ramos home.

In the 7th, Matamoros homered to right field for his fourth of the year and Alexander DeGoti singled to the left side bring home Khalil Denson.

Deville earned his second win of the year making his record 2-0, while Eckerd starter Alex Moore got his first loss of the year as his record stands at 1-1.

In game two, the Bucs could not keep the momentum from the first game, falling to the Tritons 4-3.

Matamoros, DeGoti, and Valdez all had RBI in the game but it was not enough as Eckerd would score on a fielding error.

Eckerd pitcher Jake Mahan got the win in 2.2 IP while Bucs reliever Adrian Benitez took the loss to put his record at 0-1.

The Bucs stand at 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the SSC, while Eckerd is now 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Up next for Barry is midweek matchup against SSC newcomer Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday at 6 PM at Feinbloom Field.
