Bucs to meet Bears for second time this season


NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University women's tennis team will open the NCAA Championships 5 p.m. Wednesday in Surprise, Ariz.

The No. 2 Buccaneers (21-1) will play No. 10 New York Tech (20-4) at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Round of 16. Barry is making 20th appearance in the NCAA Championships, including six in a row. The Bears are headed to the NCAA Finals for the third straight year.

Earlier this season, Barry beat NYIT, 5-0, in a neutral site match in Lakeland, Fla. Alessia Rossetti is 19-1 in singles. Gabriela Siembab is 17-4. Alexandra Borgenhoff is 14-6. The Bears 17th-ranked doubles team of Sara Burinato and Rossetti are 19-2. 

Barry's Linda Fritschken and Sonja Larsen are 17-2 in singles. Ana Pain is 16-1, Elisabeth Abanda is 14-2. Emma Onila is 9-0, and Kimmy Twelker 9-2. Barry has two doubles teams ranked in the top five. Larsen and Pain are No. 3 with a 22-0 record. Onila and Fritschken are No. 4 at 14-1.
