LIVE STATSMIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University's No. 2-ranked women's tennis team will host No. 5 Saint Leo at 11 a.m. Saturday on Senior Day.
Free hot dogs and hamburgers will be served to fans attending the match.
The Buccaneers (17-1, 7-0 Sunshine State Conference) are seeking their second straight outright regular season league title. The Lions (16-3, 6-1) lost to second place Nova Southeastern (17-1, 7-1) earlier this year. Barry beat Nova, so either way the Bucs have assured themselves at least a share of the title. But a win over the Lions on Saturday would give them the outright championship.
Linda Fritschken and
Elisabeth Abanda will play in the final home regular season matches at Buccaneer Tennis Center.
Fritschken is 65-7 in her singles career. She is 89-9 in doubles, which ranks first in school history in terms of total victories and winning percentage (.908). She has earned three All-American honors in her career, and was a member of last year's NCAA Division II National Championship team. This year, Fritschken is ranked No. 27 in the nation in singles and No. 3 in doubles.
Abanda is 42-13 in singles and 47-10 in doubles. She led the Bucs in singles victories last year when she went 19-3. She went 21-5 in doubles in 2013, earning All-American honors. Abanda also played on last year's NCAA Championship team. This season, she is 13-1 in singles and 13-3 in doubles with two different partners.Â
Barry will begin the postseason next week at the Sunshine State Conference Championships at Saint Leo.
