MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Barry baseball will be heading to familiar territory today but for a unique reason.
The Buccaneers head to conference-rival Florida Tech in Melbourne, FL for a midweek game that will not count in the SSC standings, however.
This will be the fourth contest between the teams this season with the Panthers holding a 3-0 record against the Bucs this year.
But with the Bucs coming off their first SSC series win this past weekend over Eckerd, the team is confident it can get a good result this time around versus Tech.
To do so, the Bucs will have to deal with a Panthers team that's been dominant at home, going 19-3 so far this season.
Florida Tech has 10 batters that hit at least .300 and three players that hit at least .400. Senior infielder Tyler Doughty leads the team with a .459 batting average off of 50 hits and 25 RBI.
Sophomore infielder Reid Neal leads the team in hits with 75 while junior catcher Austin Allen leads FIT with 22 doubles and is tied for first in homeruns with nine.
On the mound, the Bucs will have to contend with freshman RHP Ty Cohen, who is 6-1 on the year with a 3.66 ERA and has won each of his last two starts, combining for 15 strikeouts and no walks in those outings.
The Bucs will look to continue their recent run of success after winning three out for their last four. The game starts at 4:00 pm.
