Box Score 2 ST.PETERSBURG, Fla.—Barry baseball's weekend series versus Eckerd ended on a positive tone as the Bucs won the final game of the series 13-4 to win it two games to one.
In the first game the Buccaneers had 10 hits from six batters with four players sharing the team lead in hits with two. However, the Tritons got off to a quick start with a six run inning in the first to make it 6-0. Eckerd added another run in the third and while the Bucs would score two runs in the fourth inning, and three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings, it would not be enough as they fell 11-8.
Bucs start
Adrian Benitez got his second loss of the season after allowing six earned runs in the first inning. Eckerd starter Jimmy Gutowski got his fourth win on the year.
In the second game, however, the Bucs got one back on the Tritons and won the series with a 13-4 win.
In this game, the Bucs went wild on the bats, knocking off 19 hits with
Greg Brodzinski leading the team with four hits.
Frank Gonzalez led the team with three RBI.
The score fest by the Bucs included a homerun by
Ross Thibeault (his fourth) in the second, RBI by Gonzalez in the first and fourth innings, a RBI single by Brodzinski and RBI double by Christian Khawley in the seventh.
On the mound, Bucs pitchers combined for six strikeouts with starter
Jonathan Hernandez getting his fifth win on the year. Eckerd pitcher Kevin Plant's record is now 2-4 with the loss.
The Bucs improve to 17-21 on the year and 5-10 in the SSC while Eckerd stands at 16-21 and 4-12 in the SSC.
Up next for Barry is a Tuesday trip to Melbourne, FL to take on Florida Tech in a non-conference game at 4 pm on April 14.
