MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--Every season, the main goal for Barry baseball is to compete in and win the Sunshine State Conference, and to do that they will have to defeat teams like the three-time defending conference champions, Tampa.
The Buccaneers face off against a #1-ranked Spartans team that has dominated the SSC the last few years and that looks to continue their title run this season.
The Spartans are currently 14-2 on the season and recently secured a historic 6-2 exhibition victory over MLB's Philadelphia Phillies.
The Spartans possess several threats at the plate, namely senior shortstop Giovanny Alfonzo, who has a .390 batting average. He also is tied for first on the team in home runs with three.
Junior third-baseman Nick Flair has a team-leading 21 RBI and senior outfielder Stephen Dezzi is tied for first in homeruns with three.
On the mound, Tampa will look to junior right-hander David Heintz, who has three wins and 21 strikeouts on the year and junior left-hander Brad Hencke, who leads the team in strikeouts with 22.
The Bucs take on the Spartans in a three-game series this weekend with first pitch at 6 pm on March 6
