MIAMI SHORES,Fla.—In their only road trip outside of the state of Florida, Barry baseball heads to Milledgeville, Ga. to take on the Bobcats of Georgia College in a three-game series this weekend.
The Bobcats currently a similar record to the Bucs, currently sitting at 14-12, so this series will be crucial in both teams' seasons.
Georgia College has a roster that can hit well and that can cause problems on the mound.
Junior infielder Dylan Cooker currently leads the team with a .394 batting average, hitting eight doubles, four homeruns and a team-leading 29 RBI.
Junior outfielder Jake Sandlin leads the Bobcats in homeruns with six and total bases with 68. Four Bobcats have hit eight doubles and every player on the usual starting lineup has hit a homerun this season.
The GC rotation also has some challenges waiting for the Bucs. Junior RHP Chris Gammon has a team-leading 2.53 ERA, with a 2-1 record on the year and is tied with freshman RHP Cameron Busby in saves with two. Senior RHP Jake Anthony leads the team with 27 strikeouts in 35.2 IP.
A good result in the series for the Bucs could be the launching point for a late season run. A matchup against a similar program would be a good measure of where the Bucs are and where they need to go.
First pitch is tonight at 6 pm with tomorrow's doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
