The NCAA Division II No. 2-ranked Buccaneers beat NAIA No. 3 Auburn-Montgomery, 5-4, Wednesday at Buccaneer Tennis Center.
After taking a 2-1 lead following doubles play, Barry's
Elisabeth Abanda paved her way to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over No. 22 Paula Diaz at No. 2 singles. Barry's
Ana Pain followed that up with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over No. 36 Claudine Maheu at No. 4 singles to put the Bucs (11-1) ahead 4-1.
The Warhawks (14-4) continued to battle in singles, including two that went to a third-set tiebreaker. Alice Baudeigne came back to beat Barry freshman
Sonja Larsen, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 1 flight to cut the gap to 4-2.

Barry's Kimmy Twelker saved the win, beating Celine Lenertz, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 in convincing fashion. AUM's Kelly Southwood defeated
Linda Fritschken, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-3, at No. 3 singles in an extended match. Anna Rudolfova was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Barry's
Jasi Witherspoon at No. 6 as the Warhawks pulled out the last two matches after the verdict had been decided.
The Bucs won the No. 1 doubles match as ninth-ranked Larsen and Pain rolled over fifth-ranked Diaz and Rudolfova, 8-1. Fritschken and Twelker beat seventh-ranked Baudeigne and Maheu, 8-3, at No. 2. Auburn-Montgomery picked up the win at No. 3 when Lenertz and Southwood shut down Abanda and Witherspoon, 8-3.
Barry will host NCAA Division I New Mexico State at 3 p.m. Thursday.
