MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Buccaneer Softball team, riding an eight-game winning streak, head across town for a re-match with the St. Thomas Bobcats on Saturday, with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
The Bucs (18-5) and Bobcats (2-8) met up at Buccaneer Field on Feb. 21, with Barry taking both games by run rule, 8-0 in six innings. Taylor Sabol and Kristina Pazienza both tossed shutouts and Dee Espinosa went 5-for-6 with two homers, two doubles and three RBI in the sweep.
The Bucs followed those game up with a pair of three-game conference sweeps over Saint Leo (on the road) and Florida Southern (at home).
The Bucs have featured a powerful offense this season, batting .324 as a team and averaging 5.8 runs per game. Megan Copeland has been the catalyst, hitting a team-best .452 with 21 runs scored and 16 stolen bases. She's also tied for second on the team with six doubles and has driven in 13 from her lead-off spot. Espinosa has also been on a tear, batting .397 with 14 doubles, four homers, and 28 RBI. She leads the team with 11 walks.
Pazienza leads the team with a 1.48 ERA and has gone 3-0 in six appearances, two starts. Haley Wiseman is 10-2 for the Bucs, and has a team-best 84 strikeouts, while Sabol is 5-3.
The Bobcats have been a bit depleted this season, with eight of their 13 players having started all 10 games. Cristina Horton has been one of the few bright spots, batting .441 and scoring nine runs for a team that is hitting just .283 and averaging 3.2 runs per game. Pitching has been their weak spot as opponents are batting .382, slugging .579, and averaging 7.1 runs per game.
The Bucs hold a 39-23 edge in the all-time series, including 13-7 at Bobcat Field.
The games will be video streamed live by St. Thomas.
