The Buccaneers (7-1) now have a nine-day layoff before hosting Division II No. 33 St. Edward's March 19.
Barry had little resistance in doubles play, sweeping all three matches. At the top flight,
Sonja Larsen and
Ana Pain beat Kylie Haviland and Konstantina Adami, 8-2.
Kimmy Twelker and
Elisabeth Abanda, playing at No. 2 together for the first time this season, were 8-4 winners over Bailey Padgett and Kailey Eaton. No. 1-ranked
Emma Onila and
Linda Fritschken beat Angelina Qin and Rachel Sutton, 8-1, at No. 3. It was the first time this season the No. 2-ranked doubles team in the country played at the lowest flight.
Larsen, who owns the No. 7 singles ranking in the country, was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Haviland at the No. 1 spot. Despite being hobbled, Onila, who is No. 5 in the nation in singles, defeated Padgett, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2. Fritschken, ranked No. 23, beat Adami, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3. Abanda beat Eaton, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4.
Barry dropped the final two singles matches.
Jasi Witherspoon fell 6-4, 6-4 to Qin at the No. 5 flight.
JayJay Lubin lost 6-1, 6-1 to Michelle McFerran at No. 6.
Abanda improved to 6-0 in singles and Onila bumped her record to 5-0. Larsen and Pain are 8-0 in pairs play together.
