Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, FL— Barry baseball fell 9-6 to St. Thomas on Wednesday as poor pitching and several innings that lacked any offensive output led the Bucs to a season opening loss.
The Bucs, coming off two shutout wins in preseason over Broward College and Miami Dade College, came into the game confident. Strong pitching had been highlights in the run up to tonight's game, however it quickly came to the Bucs' detriment as starting pitcher
Jonathan Hernandez allowed six runs off six runs and two batters hit by pitches.
The Bucs were able to get one back in the third inning off a sac fly by
JC Cardenas that brought in
Ross Thibeault.
However, Hernandez allowed one more RBI in the bottom of the fourth before being replaced by
Andy Rohloff in his first regular season appearance for Barry.
Rohloff allowed two runs in the fourth to make the score 9-1 for the Bobcats.
The Bucs would score four in the top of the seventh inning off a two-run
Khalil Denson single, a one-run
Kyle Pangallo single and Pangallo scoring a run due to a fielder's choice.Pangallo would add another run in the top of the ninth as he hit Barry's first homerun of the regular season and his first as a Buccaneer.
Up next for the Bucs is a three game home series versus the Tuskegee Tigers beginning with a doubleheader on February 7
th with first pitch set for 1 pm.
