Box Score TAMPA, Fla. -- Barry University women's tennis team won its third straight match of the weekend, beating host Tampa, 8-1, Sunday.
The No. 1 Buccaneers (4-0, 2-0 Sunshine State Conference) swept doubles for the fourth straight time to start this season. The No. 37 Spartans put up a fight at No. 3 doubles, but the Bucs pair of
Elisabeth Abanda and
Jasi Witherspoon held on to beat Jenelle Morgan and Cameron Moskol, 8-6. It was the pair's fourth straight win together.
Sonja Larsen and
Ana Pain defeated Kristen Mee and Emily Hewland, 8-0, at No. 1. Top-ranked
Emma Onila and
Linda Fritschken beat Kelsey Matthews and Gianna Pinasco, 8-2, at No. 2.
Fritschken, playing No. 1 singles for the first time this season, rolled over Mee, 6-0, 6-0. Onila, the No. 5-ranked singles player in the country, was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Pinasco at No. 2. Seventh-ranked Larsen beat Matthews, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3. Pain, the 32nd-ranked player in the country, had her way with Moskol, winning 6-0, 6-0. Witherspoon beat Hewland, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5. Tampa won the final singles flight as Morgan beat
JayJay Lubin, 6-0, 6-2.Â
The Bucs will host No. 3 Saint Leo at 9 a.m. Saturday as part of Homecoming at Buccaneer Tennis Center.
