Men's Hoops Fall to No. 6 in National Polls

Bucs host Rollins 7:30 p.m. Wednesday

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University men's basketball team dropped to No. 6 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches and College Sports Information Directors of America media polls released Tuesday. The top six spots are identical in both polls.

The Buccaneers (18-2, 9-1 Sunshine State Conference) had climbed to No. 3 in the coaches poll before losing to No. 2 Florida Southern, 88-79, at home last Wednesday.

Barry, which has been ranked in the national polls all season, will host Rollins (7-15, 0-10 SSC) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Health & Sports Center. The Bucs share first place in the SSC with Florida Southern, which is now ranked No. 1 in the country after Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) became the last of the Division II unbeatens to lose a game, falling 87-72 to Carson-Newman also on Wednesday. The Railsplitters fell to No. 5 in this week's poll.

Augustana (S.D.) moved up to No. 2, Bellarmine (Ky.) jumped two spots to No. 3 and Angelo State (Texas) vaulted three spots to No. 4.

The Bucs received 310 points. Florida Southern, which collected 398 points, picked up 15 first-place votes. Augustana received the other first-place vote.

In the D2SIDA media poll, the Buccaneers fell four spots after rising to No. 2 in the nation. Barry picked up 302 points. Florida Southern is ranked No. 1 in the media poll as well after receiving nine of the 16 first-place votes. Augustana received five first-place votes, and is No. 2. Angelo State and Lincoln Memorial each received one first-place vote, despite being ranked Nos. 4-5, respectively. Bellarmine is third in the media poll as well.
