SAINT LEO, Fla.—The Barry University baseball team took three non-conference decisions from the Saint Leo Lions (3-6) this weekend.
On Saturday, the Bucs (4-5) beat the Lions 6-4. The Bucs got out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when
Manny Pedrozo hit a three-run homer driving in
Nick Shaw and Yaz Gutierrez.
Shaw reached home twice more; in the third when Ryan Gracia hit into a double play, and in the seventh off a
Chris Leon double. Leon also scored in the seventh off a Saint Leo error.
Chalrey Short (1-1) earned the win and
Scott Sexton earned his second save of the year.
The Bucs took the Sunday matinee, winning 5-2. Shaw scored the first Buccaneer run in the first. He reached first on a walk, and was driven in when he tagged up on a Pedrozo fly out in foul territory.
Brad McAllister (1-2) earned the win for the Bucs while Sexton picked up his third save.
The Sunday evening game was a bit closer than the previous two with the Bucs winning 8-7.
Leon and Gutierrez scored first for the Bucs in the first inning. Leon singled and came home off a Gutierrez triple. Gutierrez reached minutes later on a Saint Leo error.
As the Bucs entered the seventh inning, the Lions held a 7-3 lead. Yet Barry would rack up five runs in the seventh to take the win. Shaw, Leon, Gutierrez, Holness, and Pedrozo reached home, respectively.
Brett Hammaker (1-0) earned his first win of the season while Sexton racked up his fourth save for the
Buccaneers.
The Bucs return to action on Tuesday, February 23 when they face Palm Beach Atlantic at Buccaneer Field at 6:00 pm.
