Women's Tennis Sinks Clippers

Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry women's tennis team got back on a winning track with a 9-0 victory over the Concordia College Clippers at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Sunday. The match was a late addition to the schedule after the Bucs lost five matches to weather and cancellation.

The Bucs (7-6) started the match up 2-0 after defaults at number three doubles and number six singles when the Clippers (8-4) arrived with only five players.

At top doubles flight, Barry's tandem of Ildiko Csordas and Berit Peterson, ranked ninth in NCAA Division II, handled Celise Sesanker and Somadi Druker 8-4. Helen Wisniewski and Svetlana Konyashkina made it 4-0 Barry with an identical score over Lenka Hladikova and Amy Boyd.

Singles was a walk in the park, as the Bucs took four of the five slots in straight sets. Seventh-ranked Csordas polished off Druker 6-0, 6-1 at number one, while Saskia Kruse was perfect 6-0, 6-0 at number four against Boyd.

Wisneiwski defeated Hladikova 6-2, 6-1 at number two and Julie Cadet made it 8-0 in favor of the Bucs with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Sebnem Can at number five. Contreras split sets with Sesanker winning the first 6-4, but dropping the second set 6-3. With the match already decided in the Bucs' favor the pair played a super tiebreaker for the point, with Contreras coming out on top 10-8.

The Bucs host Northwood (Fla.) at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Thursday, April 12 in a doubleheader with the men's team starting at 2:00 pm.
