TAMPA, Fla.—The #5 Barry University women's tennis team fell to the #1 Lynn University Fighting Knights in the semi-final round of the Sunshine State Conference Championship on Friday afternoon, 5-1.
The only point earned from the Bucs came from the duo of
Svetlana Konyashkina and Helen Wisniewski in the third slot with a tie-breaking defeat over the Knights' Katerina Jiskrova and Kilbanoff Dombrowski, 9-8, (7-5).
Ildiko Csordas and Berit Peterson held a tight match at the number one position against Gedvile Norkute and Leigh Shelton, but ultimately fell 8-6, while freshmen Laime Contreras and Saskia Kruse fell to Alexandra Schunk and Victoria Weltz, 8-2.
The Knights only needed three singles points to advance to the finals. Those victories came with Csordas' number one slot loss to Weltz, 6-3, 6-2, Wisniewski's identical 6-1 sets loss to Schunk, and Kruses' loss to Norkute, 6-2, 6-2.
