WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—The Barry University women's tennis team (9-7, 4-4 SSC) defeated the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Monday afternoon, 6-0. Prior to the match, both coaches agreed to only play doubles if the match was undecided after the six singles matches. With Barry's win against the Sailfish, no doubles matches were required.
Ildiko Csordas had the most challenging competitor from Palm Beach Atlantic, but ultimately defeated Brooke Nord, 6-4, 6-4. Helen Wisniewski defeated Natalie Aleman, 6-1, 6-3 at the number two position while Laime Contreras stepped in at the number four position to defeat Christina Brown, 6-0, 6-1. Three of the Bucs recorded shut outs against their opponents, including Saskia Kruse's defeat against Katie Livesay at number three and
Svetlana Konyashkina's win over Alisa Toh at number five. Julie Cadet rounded out the final shut out for the Bucs against Sara Meadows in the number six position.
The Bucs will attend the Sunshine State Conference Championship Apr. 19-21 in Tampa, Fla. and will then face the Eckerd College Tritons on Apr. 25 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
