MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--  The Barry University women’s tennis team (6-3, 4-2 SSC) defeated the Saint Leo Lions on Friday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Center, 8-1.

 

Due to injuries and personal conflicts, the Saint Leo Lions arrived at Barry with only four members of their team.  Thus, the Bucs had already won three matches without even stepping onto the court.

 

Ildiko Csordas and Berit Peterson teamed up against Asmaa Tazi and Taylor Cleaves to win number one doubles, 8-3.  Helen Wisniewski and Svetlana Konyashkiva defeated the Lions’ Gina Schifano and Lara King at number two doubles, 8-1.

 

In singles action, Barry’s Saskia Kruse was defeated by Tazi, 6-1, 6-1 at the number one position, while Laime Contreras defeated Schifano at number two, 7-6, 6-4.  At the number three position, junior Muriel Sherwood won her match against Cleaves, 6-1, 6-0 and Julie Cadet rounded out the fourth position to defeat King, 6-0, 6-3.

 

The Bucs will host Rollins College on Sunday, Mar. 25 at 11:00am and will then head on the road to Pensacola, Fla. for the White Sands Invitational, Mar. 30-Apr. 1.
