TAMPA, Fla. – The #15 Barry University women’s tennis team (5-3, 3-2 SSC) split a pair of Sunshine State Conference (SSC) matches on Sunday afternoon. The Buccaneers defeated the #27 University of Tampa Spartans 7-2 but lost to the #22 Florida Southern Moccasins 5-4.

 

In the first match, the Buccaneers took all three doubles from the Spartans (11-6, 1-4 SSC) before winning four of the six singles matches.  Ildiko Csordas led the Bucs with a shut-out 6-0, 6-0 victory at the number one position, while number two Helen Wisniewski and number three Berit Peterson defeated their opponents 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2 respectively. At the sixth spot, Julie Cadet defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-3.

 

In the second match against Florida Southern (8-1, 2-1 SSC), the Buccaneers took two out of the three doubles as Csordas and Peterson at the number one spot won 8-6 and Contreras and Kruse at the number three position won 8-1. In singles play, however, Csordas and Peterson were the only Barry victories as the Moccasins won the remaining matches.

 

Barry next plays on Thursday, Mar. 22 against Armstrong Atlantic at 2:00 pm at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.
