ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The 15^th-ranked Barry University women's tennis team took down the Eckerd Tritons 8-1 on Saturday morning for their second Sunshine State Conference (SSC) victory.

 

The Bucs (4-2, 2-1 SSC) swept through doubles play, losing only one point in the number one position. Ildiko Csordas and Berit Peterson surrendered one in their 8-1 win over Eckerd's (1-5) Madora Mak and Mary Charlotte Mak. However, both Buccaneer teams of Helen Wisniewski and Svetlana Konyashkiva and Laime Contreras and Saskia Kruse then shutout partners Danielle Loizzo and Stephanie Bowman and Claudia Ramos and Katie MacNamara 8-0 respectively.

 

Barry again dominated in singles play, winning five of the six matches. At the number one position, Csordas was the only Buc to play a third set as she defeated Madora Mak 6-3, 3-6 (10-4). Number two Wisniewski handed Eckerd's Mary Mak a 6-2, 6-2 loss, as both Peterson and Julie Cadet clinched their matches with 6-0, 6-1 wins. Muriel Sherwood was the lone Buc to not give up point, defeating Ramos 6-0, 6-0.

 

The Bucs continue their conference weekend as they take on the Tampa Spartans at 10:00 am and then travel down the road to play the Florida Southern Mocs at 2:30 pm on Sunday, Mar. 18.
