Box Score MIAMI SHORES – The Barry University baseball team grounded the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 5-2 earlier today at Feinbloom Field to win the three-game series two games to one.
The Bucs (31-20) offense struck first, putting together a five-run second inning against Eagles starter Jason Short.
Fausto Faraldo got the inning started reaching base after being hit by a pitch and then advanced to third on a single down the leftfield line by
Ricky Sanchez.
Cesar Aranguren then stepped to the plate and blasted a three-run homer over the leftfield wall to put the Bucs on top 3-0.
Carlos de la Osa then tripled off the centerfield fence and later scored on an RBI double by
Jerry Thornton. Thornton then stole third and came around to score on a balk when the ball slipped out of Short's hand in mid-motion.
Both offenses were then kept quiet for the next four innings until Gulf Coast (38-18) plated two in the top of the eighth of Bucs reliever
Jesse Naber on an RBI single by Adam Masino and a fielder's choice by Travis Cunningham. However, the Eagles bid for a late inning comeback fell short as
Michael Davila picked up his first save of the season after shutting the door in the ninth.
Chris Casale (4-4) picked up the win on the mound for the Bucs. The righty tossed seven-complete allowing just six hits and striking out three without surrendering a run.
Short (4-5) was the losing pitcher giving up five earned runs on six hits in four innings of work.
Jerry Thornton and
Carlos de la Osa had two hits apiece, while Aranguren was the top RBI man with three.
The Bucs will next travel to Nova Southeastern on Tuesday when they face off with the Knights beginning at 7:00 pm.
