Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Ron Baptiste hit a pinch-hit grand-slam home run in the eighth inning to lead the #2 Rollins Tars to an 8-7 win over the Barry Buccaneers at Feinbloom Field in Sunshine State Conference baseball action Friday night.
The Bucs (21-14, 5-8 SSC) struck early against Tars' ace Steve Edsall with two runs in the first inning.
Fausto Faraldo had an RBI-single and
Keith Barton scored on a passed ball.
But the Tars (32-4, 9-1 SSC) bounced back to tie the game in the second inning. Juan Dieguez drove in one run with a single and another scored on a double play. Rollins took the lead in the third and added another run in the fourth to lead 4-2.
The Bucs knotted the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning. Faraldo singled to open the frame and trotted home on a home run by
Ricky Sanchez.
Barry went on to take the lead in the seventh inning.
Nick Corbeil drove in Sanchez with an infield single with the bases loaded and
Alex Meneses blooped a base hit down the right field line to score two more.
But in the eighth inning, Barry's
Greg Dicso (1-1) walked the bases loaded and Baptiste lofted a fly ball that barely cleared the fence in right field, aided by a friendly wind.
Nick Manson (5-0) earned the win for the Tars, pitching three innings in relief of Edsall, allowing five hits and three walks, but only one run, while striking out four. Disco took the loss for Barry, allowing five runs on three hits and five walks with nine strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
Sanchez and
Brian Lima each had three hits for the Bucs, who led the Tars 14-9 in safeties. Luis Dieguez and Matt Gerber each had two hits for Rollins.
The team play a doubleheader tomorrow at noon to complete the series.
