Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Barry University baseball team (21-13) fell to the Lynn Fighting Knights 8-2 in a non-conference match-up earlier today at the McCusker Sports Complex.
Dave Burns gave the Fighting Knights (16-20) an early 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single that scored Beau McMillian. In the next inning, Lynn's John Zagaria extended the Knight lead to two with a sacrifice fly. In the top of the third, Barry's
Alex Meneses drove in
Carlos de la Osa with an RBI single to narrow the gap back to one, but their hope faded quickly.
Replacing starter
Chris Casale in the third, Barry's
Jesse Naber gave up six consecutive hits and five runs that broke the game open for the Fighting Knights as they took a seven run lead after three. John Adams relieved Naber in the third earning the final two outs to get the Bucs out of the inning. Leading 8-1 heading into the seventh, Barry's de la Osa scored
Jerry Thornton from second with an RBI double, but the Bucs were unable to capitalize on a late offensive surge.
Casale (1-4) gave up four hits and two runs, while striking out two in the loss for Barry. Eric Crawford (1-2) picked up the win for Lynn giving up only one run and striking out two. Adams hurled 4.2 innings for Barry giving up one unearned run and striking out four.
Meneses and de la Osa each had a hit and an RBI to lead the Bucs. McMillian, Brandner and Raymond Perez tallied two hits apiece, while Donovan O'Dowd drove in a game-high three RBI.
The Buccaneers will return to action hosting Rollins at Feinbloom Field on Apr. 2 at 7 pm for a Sunshine State Conference match-up.
