Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The 12th-ranked Barry University women's tennis team halted the University of Massachusetts-Amherst Minutewomen 5-2 earlier today at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex.

Although the Buccaneers defaulted at the bottom doubles flight, Natascha Loebnitz and Maria Lopez defeated UMass's Stephanie Price and Dorothy Iwanowicz 8-6. Greta Trotman and Carole Steinhauser also posted an 8-6 win over the Minutewomen's Sasha Edelstein and Susan Hyams. Since the both teams agreed on the Division I scoring format, the Buccaneers led 1-0 after doubles.

In singles, Loebnitz defeated Christine Liehr 6-0, 6-3 at the top flight to lead the Bucs while Trotman defeated Price 6-2, 6-4 at number two. After winning the first set 6-4, Barry's Lopez led the second set 3-2 before retiring to UMass's Edelstein for one of the Minutewomen's two points. The other was a result of a default at the bottom flight. Arabella Martin defeated Iwanowicz 6-2, 6-2, while Steinhauser turned in a 6-2, 6-3 victory over UMass's Jan Bartoloni.

The Buccaneers will return to action on Wednesday hosting Vanguard at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex at 3 pm.
