Softball Falls to Spartans

Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University softball team (17-11, 2-5 SSC) fell to the fourth-ranked Tampa Spartans (12-2, 6-1 SSC) 2-0 earlier today at Buccaneer Field to open a three-game Sunshine State Conference series.

Both teams combined for a total of five hits, but Nichole Fenno's heads-up base running and Kristin Law's solo home run in the first inning was all the Spartans needed for the 2-0 victory over the Buccaneers.

Tampa's Devlin Dougherty (7-1) picked up the shutout victory for the Spartans allowing only two Barry hits and four walks, while striking out four. Elizabeth Bennett (13-7) struck out nine and gave up two runs on three hits in the loss.

Both teams will square off again on Saturday, Mar. 13 at 1 pm for an SSC doubleheader at Buccaneer Field
