Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The ninth-ranked Barry Buccaneers beat the Bloomfield Deacons 5-3 at Feinbloom Field Wednesday night.
The Deacons (1-13) jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning, rapping out three hits and scoring twice off starter
Glenn Zavitz.
But Barry (16-5) came back to tie the game in their half of the inning.
Jerry Thornton led off with a single and stole second. Two outs later,
Ricky Sanchez singles to drive in Thornton and after a stolen base scored on a single by
Keith Barton.
Zavitz settled down after the first inning, scattering four hits over the next four innings. He left with a 3-2 lead after Sanchez drove in
Jesse Naber, who had walked, in the third inning.
The Deacons tied the game in the sixth inning off reliever
Gerry Guarch (3-0) with an unearned run. But Sanchez scored in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Nick Corbiel and the Bucs tacked on an insurance run in the seventh on an error by the Deacons rightfielder.
Greg Dicso pitched out of a one-on, one-out jam in the eighth inning and then a scoreless ninth to earn his first save.
Alfredo Rodriguez (0-3) went the distance for the Deacons, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.
The Bucs return to action on Friday, Mar. 12 when they host the Florida Southern Moccasins in their first home conference game of the season.
