Women's Tennis Opens With Rout Of Panthers

Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University women's tennis team routed the Florida Tech Panthers 7-2 at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Saturday to open the 2004 season.

The Bucs (1-0, 1-0 SSC), who played with only five players due to injuries, dominated the Panthers (0-2, 0-1 SSC) who are in their first season of competition.

Barry's top player Conny Grunes, who finished second at the ITA Small College Division II Tournament in the fall, missed the match shifting everyone up the ladder one slot.

In doubles, the Bucs captured both matches played 8-0, with Natascha Loebnitz and Maria Lopez beating Belen Pandre and Aya Nakasuji at the one flight and Greta Trotman and Arabella Martin beating Kim Tucker and Jamie Lee Foote at number two.

In singles, Loebnitz moved up to the top spot and handled Tech's Pandre 7-5, 6-1. The Bucs won the other four singles matches 6-0, 6-0.

Barry faces Nova Southeastern on Thursday, February 12 at 3:00 pm at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.
