LEO, Fla. -- The Barry University men's and women's tennis teams picked up a pair of wins over the Saint Leo men and women earlier today in Sunshine State Conference play. Barry's men (6-1, 2-1 SSC) defeated Saint Leo men (0-7, 0-5 SSC) 8-1, while Barry's women (8-1, 5-1 SSC) topped Saint Leo women (1-5, 1-4 SSC) 7-2.

The Barry split the number one and two doubles with Saint Leo winning the first 8-2 and falling at number two 9-7. However, the Bucs were able to take two of the three doubles as a result of Saint Leo defaulting at number three.

In singles, Flillip Norrman moved up to the top slot and defeated Saint Leos Mike DiGiacomo 6-2, 7-5 to pace the Bucs. The Bucs took the next three flights with relative ease. Down two spot, Saint Leo defaulted the fifth and sixth flights as Barry went on to win 8-1.

Down two points heading into the match, Barry's women defaulted at number three doubles and number six singles. Natashca Loebnitz and 27th-ranked Maria Lopez teamed up defeating Saint Leo's Iskra Nikolovaska and Ashley Johansen 8-0, while Carole Steinhauser and Arabella Martin posted the same score over Saint Leo's Nikki Prack and Kate Kiernan.

After winning the first set, Loebnitz took the top flight in singles when Nikolovska retired in the second set after being down 1-0. After sitting out the doubles matches, Barry's Greta Trotman came in and defeated Johansen 6-0, 6-1 and the second spot, while Lopez and Steinhauser defeated Saint Leo's Kiernan and Dacey Mahoney at the three and four flights by scores of 6-0, 6-0 respectively.

Both Barry's men and women will return to action on Monday, Mar. 1 facing off with Valdosta State at 9 am and then Grand Valley State at 12 noon.
