Box Score 2 VALDOSTA, Ga.—The Barry Buccaneers won a pair of games at the Super 8 Slugfest in Valdosta, Ga., defeating Lincoln Memorial 8-0 and North Alabama 10-6.
In the first game, Barry jumped all over the Railsplitters scoring seven runs in the first three innings and closed out the game with a single run in the fifth which shortened the game on the NCAA run-rule.
Kim Fujimoto knocked in Delilah Stroup with a single in the top of the first and
Maile Keeney added a two-run homer. Heather Hodges drove in three of the next four runs, with a single in the second and a two-run double in the third. Fujimoto put the cap on the game by plating Sarah Backe with a single in the fifth.
Elizabeth Bennett (8-5) earned the win for the Bucs, taking a no-hitter into the fourth inning. She tossed five scoreless innings and allowing only two hits and struck out four.
Brittney Walker (3-2) took the loss for the Railsplitters, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and three walks, while striking out two in three innings.
In the nightcap, North Alabama jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first three innings. After leaving the bases loaded in the first, the Lions plated two runs in the second on Jessica Liddy's two-run single. They added another run in the third.
But Barry's bat awoke in the fourth inning. The Bucs loaded the bases on singles by Keeney and Amanda Moore and Krista Latessa's hit by pitch. After a fielder's choice erased Keeney, Kathleen McNamara coaxed a walk out of UNA starter Stephanie Elliott (3-4) to score Latessa. Another fielder's choice erased Moore and Elliot appeared ready to get out of the jam. But Stroup smacked a two-out grand slam to right center and give the Bucs a 5-3 lead.
Barry tacked on two more runs in the fifth on Erin Sutton's two-out, two-run single. The Lions' defense got sloppy after that and made two errors and a passed ball which led to three Buccaneer runs.
Backe (2-3) earned the win with four innings, allowing four runs on six hits and five walks, while striking out one. Bennett earned her first save but throwing the last three innings. She gave up four hits and two runs, striking out three.
The Bucaneers will face Alabama-Huntsville at 10:00 am and West Florida at 4:00 pm tomorrow as the tournament continues.
