Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The 14th-ranked Barry University baseball team (11-3) got back in the win column downing the Lewis Flyers 6-5 earlier tonight at Feinbloom Feild.
Andy Sweet put the Flyers (1-2) on the board first with an RBI triple in the top of the third inning. However, Barry's
Keith Barton ignited a three-run fourth inning with an RBI double, while
Nick Corbeil and
Alex Meneses drove in the other two runs.
With the bases loaded in the fifth, Barry pitcher
Alex Gonzalez hit Victor Naut with a pitch to drive in a run and the Flyers tied the contest 3-3 in the sixth on a delayed steal. The Buccaneers chipped away and scored two in the sixth to regain the lead 5-3 and Corbeil hit the game-winning solo home run in the seventh to extend the lead to three. In the eighth, catcher Phil Marchinski hit a two-RBI double to right for the Flyers, but Barry's
Michael Davila and
Jesse Naber sealed the deal from the hill.
Meneses went 3 for 3 and added an RBI to lead the Bucs at the plate, while Barton finished 2 for 3 with an RBI. Corbeil produced two RBI and his second homer in two games. Barry's Gonzalez improved to 4-0 hurling 7.2 innings giving up five runs and striking out seven. Naber picked up his third save.
Chad Dahlman (0-1) suffered the loss for Lewis giving up five runs (four earned), nine hits and struck out one. Brandon Niewinski was a perfect 4 of 4 and scored twice to lead the Flyers, while Marchinski added two RBI.
Both teams will resume play on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 12 noon at Feinbloom Field.
