Baseball Sweeps Florida Tech

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MELBOURNE – The Barry University baseball team defeated Florida Tech twice earlier this afternoon 14-3 and 10-6 to complete a three-game sweep of the Panthers at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.

In game one the Bucs (10-2, 3-0 SSC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Ricky Sanchez led off the top of second with a solo blast over the left-centerfield wall, however, the Panthers (4-10, 0-3 SSC) quickly knotted the game at one apiece on an RBI single by Paul Stone through the left side.

The Bucs then exploded for eight runs in the top half of the fourth. After loading the bases with one out, Fausto Faraldo delivered a bases clearing double down the right-field line and Alex Meneses followed with an RBI single to left which put the Bucs up 5-1. Then Brian Lima stepped to the plate with two men on and blasted his fourth homerun of the season over the wall in left and Ricky Sanchez later capped of the inning with a RBI single up the middle plating Carlos de la Osa who had reached on a double of the wall in right earlier in the inning.

Barry then added one run in the sixth on an RBI single by Cesar Aranguren and two each in both the seventh and ninth innings to capture the 14-3 victory.

For the game the Bucs had six batters with multiple hit games. Meneses led the way going 5 for 6 with three RBI's, while Sanchez had three hits and two RBI's. Lima, Aranguren, Barton and Faraldo all each had two. Faraldo led the Bucs in RBI's with four.

Freshman starter Jayson Brown earned the win pitching five-complete giving, up just one earned run and striking out two. His record improves to 2-0 on the season.

In game two, it was the Panthers who scored first going up 1-0 in the bottom of the first, however, it did not last as the Bucs responded with two in the second on an RBI ground out by Thornton and a RBI single by Nick Corbeil. The Bucs then added a third run in the third when Meneses led off the inning with a single, stole second and later scored on a double off the left-field wall by Brian Lima.

After the Panthers added two in the third on a two-run homerun by Ryan Self, Barry's Keith Barton responded with his second homerun in as many days to push the Bucs out in front 4-3. The Bucs then added three more in the fifth on Sanchez's second homerun of the day, a three-run blast down the left-field line, and two more in the sixth on Nick Corbeils long ball to center. Corbeil then drove in the Bucs final run in the seventh with an RBI single earning the Bucs the 10-3 victory.

Corbeil was the Bucs top hitter in game two going 4 for 4 with four RBI's, while Meneses had three hits and Sanchez and Barton had two hits apiece.

Robert Riley earned the victory on the mound for the Bucs pitching four-complete and allowing just two earned runs. The win was the first of his collegiate career.

The Bucs return to action on Wednesday at 6:00 pm at St. Thomas.
