Men's Basketball Upset By Knights

Box Score FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Barry University men's basketball team suffered an upsetting loss to the Nova Southeastern Knights 66-57 earlier tonight in a non-conference match-up.

The Knights (8-14) opened the game with a 9-4 lead over the Buccaneers (12-11) with 15:36 to play in the first half. Barry narrowed the gap to 13-12 at the 11:16 mark, but shooting a mere 28 percent from the floor with 10 turnovers allowed the Knights to go on an 11-2 run to close out the first half with a 37-23 lead.

Down by 14 heading into the second half, the Buccaneers came out shooting 50 percent from the field in the second half. However, despite Nick Ellingsworth-Perez and Clifford Smith's 11 second points, the Bucs fell to the Knights on their home court 66-57.

Ellingsworth-Perez led all Buccaneer scorers with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Smith added 15. Nova's Zak Kirchgaffner led all scorers and rebounding with 18 points and 11 boards. The Knights Calvin Jenkins and Marco Meier each added 14 and 12 points respectively.

The Buccaneers will resume play on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Saint Leo at 4 pm. The game will be televised by the Sunshine Network as a tape delay.
