Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Barry University baseball team fell to the Florida Southern Moccasins 9-1 earlier today in the final game of the three game conference series at Henley Field.
Four hits led to a two-run first inning for the Mocs heading into the second. Starting pitcher
David Schmidt shutout the bold Florida Southern offense over the next two innings however in the fourth, the Mocs flooded home plate with six runs on a flurry of Buccaneer errors and two hits taking the lead 8-0 after four. The Bucs scored once in the fifth after scattering three hits, but the Mocs held on for the 9-1 win.
Schmidt (1-5) hurled the first three innings, gave up seven runs (six earned), seven hits, and struck out two in the loss. The Buccaneer bullpen,
Greg Dicso,
Gabe Cabrera and John Adams, looked to find a nitch in the final six innings allowing just two unearned runs while striking out six. Brian Reves (7-3) allowed just one run, struck out seven and walked one to earn the win.
The Buccaneers fell to 17-32-1, 3-15 SSC while the Mocs improved to 38-9, 13-5 SSC. The Buccaneers return to the friendly confines of Feinbloom Field on Tuesday at 6 pm hosting Nova Southeastern for the final home contest of the 2003 season.
