Box Score KEY BISCAYNE, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers and Lynn Lady Knights each reached the finals of the Sunshine State Conference Women's Tennis Tournament with 5-0 wins Monday at the Crandon Park Tennis Center.
The Buccaneers won all three doubles in relatively easy fashion. The Bucs' top team of Conny Grunes and Gizella Turbok knocked off the #5-ranked team in the ITA, beating Vanessa Caddick and Carla Prieto 8-5.
In the singles, Valeria Papandrea knocked off Suzie Aurelio, who was filling in for the injured Jill Oppenheim, 6-0, 6-0 at number six. Maria Lopez closed out the match by defeating Frances Giron 6-3, 6-1 at number five.
The Lynn Knights (18-0) advanced in almost easier fashion over the Tampa Spartans (9-13), losing only three games in all three doubles combined and only two more games at the top two singles flights in the 5-0 win.
Lynn's Masa Bajramovic and Monse Palacios defeated Liz Moulthrop and Jamie Fox 8-3 at number three doubles, but the Knights won the top two flights 8-0 each.
In singles, Kristina Triska defeated Moulthrop 6-0, 6-0 at number one and Monica Mastrilova beat Abby Shelide 6-2, 6-0 at number two.
The Knights now face off against the Bucs in the final for the second year in a row.
