Box Score 2 MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The top-ranked Barry University softball team rolled the Florida Tech Panthers earlier today in Sunshine State Conference action winning the first game 5-3 then the nightcap 15-1 in five innings.
Carrie Roberts blasted a solo home run to left center, the first of her three-year collegiate career to give th Bucs an early 1-0 lead in the third. Amanda Moore followed the next inning with her fifth homer of the year to extend the lead to two.
In the bottom half of the fifth, the Panthers pieced together three hits and three runs to claim the lead 3-2 with limited swings left for Barry's offense. However senior Nora Conroy, poised from years of experience, stood in and belted a three-run shot to center to lift the Bucs 5-3 over the Panthers.
Conroy led the Bucs offensively with three RBI, while Roberts and Moore each added a home run each. Geraly Elam (28-4) gave up three runs, walked two and fanned 10 to pick up the win.
In the finale, flood gates opened for the Bucs who crossed the dish 15 times en route to a 15-1 trouncing of the Panthers in five innings. The Bucs took advantage of five Panther errors and scored two in the first and fifth innings, four in the second and fourth, and three in the third.
Kristina Socarras went two-for-two with four RBI to lead the Bucs, while KD Smith and Moore added two hits apiece. Heather Hodges, Kim Fujimoto and Sarah White also added two RBI each.
Erin Cormier (19-4) picked up the win for the Buccaneers hurling a complete game and allowing one unearned run on just four hits.
The Buccaneers improved to 47-8 overall (24-2, SSC), just two wins shy of breaking the school record for wins in a single season. The Panthers fell to 29-19 overall and 14-14 in the SSC. The Buccaneers will return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 23 at 6 pm hosting Nova Southeastern at Buccaneer Field. Wednesday will also be senior night for the Buccaneer seniors.
