Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The Barry tennis teams swept a non-conference set from the Azusa Pacific Crusaders, winning the women's match 9-0 and knocking off the #1-ranked men's team 6-3.
In the women's match the Buccaneers just steamrolled the out-classed Crusaders (12-10). Conny Grunes moved up to the #1 flight and knocked off Mayu Sato 6-1, 6-2, to extend her season long winning streak to 21 straight matches.
Victoria Courmes, playing #2, and Maria Lopez at #5 posted perfect 6-0, 6-0 wins over Christina Earnest and Andrea Yorkey respectively.
In the men's match, a new doubles lineup paid dividends immediately as the Bucs won all three flights. Last year's #1 team of Samir M'Bioka and Sebastian Losavio reunited for an 8-5 win over APU's Sam Fletcher and Adam Davidson.
The Crusaders (20-6), ranked #1 in the NAIA, made a run back in the singles as Barry's #2 player
Thomas Hipp missed the match. Azusa won three of the doubles, two of them in third set super tie-breakers after the match had been decided.
Losavio moved up to #3 and knocked off Davidsion 7-5, 6-4, while Dirk Bennighaus and Colin Riley pulled in big points at #5 and #6 respectively.
The men are now 18-3 and the women 21-2 heading into the Sunshine State Conference Tournament April 26-28 at the Crandon Park Tennis Center in Key Biscayne.
