Box Score NAPLES, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers clipped the wings of the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 7-2 Tuesday night.
David Schmidt (1-2) picked up the win with six solid innings, scattering 11 hits. He allowed two runs (one earned) walking two and striking out five.
Carlos de la Osa put the Bucs up in the second inning with his sixth homer.
After the Eagles tied it on a unearned run in the bottom of the inning, Barry scored twice in the third to take the lead for good.
Fausto Faraldo and
Jerry Thornton had singles to lead off the inning. After a double steal,
Alex Meneses drove in Faraldo with a sacrifice fly and Thornton came home on a double by
Billy Zoffinger.
Ricky Sanchez put the finishing touches on the night with a two-run double in the seventh inning.
Alex Gonzalez worked the final three innings to earn his first save. He retired nine of the 10 batters he faced, with one reaching on an error.
Tony Korson (2-2) took the loss for the Eagles. He went six innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks, striking out six.
Barry improves to 14-21, while the Eagles fall to 26-9-1. The Bucs host defending Sunshine State Conference champs Tampa on Friday night at 6:00 pm.
