Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Barry University softball team split on their opening day at the Rebel Games defeating the Lewis Flyers 6-2 in the opener, then later falling to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 4-3 in 10 innings.
In the first game, the Bucs scored four runs in the third and two in the fourth to take a convincing 6-0 lead. The Flyers (4-5) tried to make a comeback in the sixth scoring two, but fell 6-2 in the final.
KD Smith led the Bucs at the dish going two-for-three with a run scored. Freshman Amanda Moore led the team with three RBI, while Delilah Stroup followed with two RBI.
Geralyn Elam (12-2) gave up two runs on six hits and struck out six to earn the win for the Bucs. Emily Granath (1-3) gave up six runs on seven hits and walked for in the loss.
The Bucs faced the South Dakota State in the second game scoring two runs in the first for an early 2-0 lead. The Jackrabbits (6-1) scored one of their own in the bottom half of the inning to narrow the gap to one. While both pitchers battled on the hill, the Jackrabbits took advantage of a costly Buccaneer error to tie the game at two to eventually send the game into extra innings.
The Bucs regained the lead in the ninth, but in the bottom half, the relentless Jackrabbits tied the game at three apiece. The Bucs failed to take advantage of the tiebreaker in the tenth and the Jackrabbits took full advantage of the opportunity and scored on a Lindsay Distel RBI single for the 4-3 win over the Buccaneers.
Sarah White, Kim Fujimoto, Amanda Moore and Nora Conroy all added two hits each to pace the Bucs' efforts. Erin Cormier (6-1) earned the starting nod and gave up two unearned runs on four hits and struck out three in 4.1 innings. Elam (12-2) pitched in relief the final five innings and gave up two unearned runs on three hits and struck out six. The team was credited with the loss.
The Buccaneers (18-5) return to action for their second day at the Rebel Games taking on Northwood (Mich.) at 2:20 pm and South Dakota at 4:10 pm.
