Box Score WINGATE, N.C.--The Barry baseball team started its spring trip with a win at Wingate 10-9 over the Bulldogs.
The Bucs jumped out to a 9-2 lead after four innings and held on as the Bulldogs mounted a furious comeback attempt, scoring seven runs in the fifth through eighth innings.
In the first four innings,
Alex Meneses and
Joey Perez combined to reach base safely six times in six trips, and scored four runs.
Ricky Sanchez drove in four of the Bucs' first nine runs.
Matt Reynolds scored what proved to be the winning run in the seventh inning. He led off with a single, stole second and later scored on a groundout by Perez.
Chad Emery provided the sock for the Bulldogs with two homers and five RBI.
Alex Gonzalez ran his record to 3-1 with 7.0 innings work. He allowed 16 hits and nine runs (six earned), but did not walk a batter and struck out four.
Eric Flynn worked the last two innings to earn his first save. Marc Church (1-2) took the loss for Wingate. He allowed only four hits in 3.1 innings, but walked four and hit two batters, leading to seven runs (five earned).
The teams get back together on Thursday for the final game in the two-game set.
