Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers rode pitching and solid defense past the Florida Tech Panthers, sweeping a Sunshine State Conference softball doubleheader 3-1 and 2-0 at Buccaneer Field Sunday afternoon.

The Bucs grabbed an early lead in game one, thanks to some wildness by Tech starter Christine Custer (4-5). Custer walked four in the first inning, including Amanda Moore with the bases loaded to drive in Delilah Stroup.

In the second inning, Barry added another run. KD Smith tripled to right center with two outs. Stroup drew another walk and then executed a perfect double steal with Smith coming home.

The play worked again in the fifth inning, with Kim Fujimoto going to second and Smith again taking home.

Geralyn Elam (22-3) earned the win for the Bucs, giving up six hits in the complete-game performance. She allowed one run and struck out five. Custer took the loss, despite allowing only two hits. But she walked seven, while striking out only one, leading to three earned runs.

In the nightcap, the Bucs scored in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Heather Hodges, scoring pinch runner Heather Cook and Krista Latessa. Barry then held on in a slight drizzle over the last three innings.

Erin Cormier (14-2) tossed the shutout, scattering three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Barry improves to 36-7, 13-1 in the SSC. Florida Tech falls to 22-12-1, 7-7 in the conference. The Bucs are off until Saturday, when they host the Tampa Spartans at 6:00 pm.
