Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAMPA, Fla. -- Buccaneer hurlers Geralyn Elam and Erin Cormier picked up a pair of shutout victories for the top-ranked Barry University softball team on Saturday over the Tampa Spartans. The Buccaneers won the first game 5-0 in 10 innings and capped off the night with a 3-0 shutout in the nightcap.

In the first game, the Buccaneers scattered five hits over the first seven innings, but were unable to plate a runner sending the game into extra innings. Neither team was able to convert in the eighth and ninth innings sending the game into the tiebreaker 10th. In the final inning, Sarah White sparked a five-run offensive show with an RBI single as the Bucs pounded out four hits for the 5-0 win.

Freshman Kim Fujimoto went four-for-five and scored once to lead the Bucs. White and Kristina Socarras followed going two-for-five with an RBI and a run scored each.

Geralyn Elam (18-3) went the distance and gave up four hits and struck out six to earn the win for the Bucs. It was the 50th win of her career at Barry. Melanie Homes (5-6) suffered the loss for the Spartans giving up four runs (one earned) on 10 hits and struck out five.

Sparked by a leadoff single by KD Smith, the Buccaneers scored two runs on three hits to take an early 2-0 over the Spartans in the nightcap. Smith extended the Bucs lead by one with an RBI double in the fourth, scoring Krista Latessa from second leading to the 3-0 final score.

Smith led the Bucs in the nightcap going two-for-four with a double and an RBI, while Socarras and White added two hits each.

Erin Cormier (11-1) picked up the win, hurling the seven-inning shutout allowing one hit and struck out nine, while also registering her 20th career victory as a Buccaneer. Kristin Law (4-3) took the loss giving up three runs on nine hits, walked one, and struck out one.

The Buccaneers improved to 29-6 overall and 7-1 in the SSC, while the Spartans fell to 15-10, 4-4 SSC. The Bucs will resume play on Sunday, Mar. 23 in St. Petersburg, Fla., taking on Eckerd at 1 pm.
