Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers tamed the Columbia Lions 7-2 in women's tennis action at the Buccaneer Tennis Center Thursday afternoon.

The Bucs took two of the three doubles, then breezed through the top five singles flights for the final margin.

Barry's 33-year-old freshman, Conny Grunes, knocked off Columbia's Shelly Mittal 6-2, 6-0 at the top flight, while Victoria Courmes handled Molly Condit 6-2, 6-3 at the second flight. Gizella Turbok continued her hot play, beating Melissa Nguyen 6-2, 6-4 at number three.

The match turned odd after that. Columbia's Leena Krishnaswamy led 4-2 in the first set against Greta Trotman, but had to retire. Barry's Maria Lopez went to a super set with Iana Dimkova after splitting the first two sets 6-1 and 5-7, then coasted away 10-3 in the super set.

Lucia Aniello gave the Lions (7-2) their only singles win, beating Valeria Papandrea in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 7-6.

With the singles wins, Grunes and Trotman improve to 14-0 this spring.

The Bucs (15-1) return to the court tomorrow at 2:00 pm against the Big Red of Cornell.
