Box Score 3 MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University softball team wrapped up the Buccaneer Classic earlier today opening up with a 1-0 loss to the North Florida Ospreys. However, they followed with win over the Eckerd College Tritons 5-3 and the LeMoyne Dolphins 9-0.
Against the Ospreys (12-3) in the opening game, the Bucs gave up only one run in the third, but could only manage two hits offensively and fell 1-0. Geralyn Elam (10-2) who gave up five hits, one run, and struck out eight suffered the loss.
In the mid-afternoon game, the Bucs faced off with the Tritons (2-14) in a non-conference match-up. The Tritons scored on a Buccaneer error in the third to take an early 1-0 lead. The Bucs responded with a four-run fourth inning sparked by a Hillary Hamilton two-RBI double. KD Smith gave the Bucs a 5-1 lead in the sixth with a solo homer, her fourth of the season. The Tritons took advantage of two costly Buc errors in the bottom half of the inning and scored two runs, but the Bucs held on for the 5-3 win.
Erin Cormier (6-1) struck out five and gave up three unearned runs to earn the win for the Bucs. Kristina Lemon (2-10) took the loss for the Tritons and gave up five runs, walked four, and struck out two.
In the tournament finale, the Buccaneers scored early and often. Taking advantage of four LeMoyne (5-1) errors, the Bucs score two in the first and three in the second to take an early 5-0 lead. They added two more in the fourth and sixth innings for the 9-0 win in six innings.
Elam (11-2), in her second appearance of the day, gave up only one hit, walked two and fanned six en route to the win. Marnie Sundberg (3-1) gave up seven runs (three earned) and six hits in the loss.
Sarah White led the Bucs for the day posting a .500 batting average in three games with three RBI.
The Buccaneers improved to 17-4 overall and will return to action at the Rebel Games in Orlando, Fla. Mar. 6-9.
